Dairy giants move into active nutrition as protein demand surges

Leading consumer dairy brands like Lactalis, Nestlé and Danone are targeting sports nutrition because whey protein and high-protein products deliver higher margins, stronger growth and lower volatility than traditional commodity dairy markets. The shift is driven by rising global demand for protein in sports nutrition, weight management and healthy ageing, plus the ability to monetize whey (once a by-product) into premium functional nutrition products and brands.
