STAT+: What’s on tap at a major heart conference

Later this week, physicians, researchers, patients, and patient advocates will gather in New Orleans for the scientific sessions of the American Heart Association, where they will hear about new ways to address cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the United States.

Studies released ahead of the meeting cover connections between heart failure and chronic kidney disease, the benefit of very low “bad” cholesterol levels after stroke, and sex differences as well as geographic disparities in who dies after a heart attack.
