STAT+: Children’s hospital lobby shifts strategy amid MAHA’s rise in Washington

WASHINGTON — As long-revered health institutions come under new scrutiny in President Trump’s Washington, one powerful group is shifting its strategy.

The Children’s Hospital Association, which represents more than 200 hospitals and spends millions on lobbying each year, announced Tuesday a new messaging approach and internal changes to support it.

The group plans to pivot to promoting the health of American children broadly and highlighting the importance of pediatric health to the country as a whole. To accomplish those goals, the group will emphasize the importance of using evidence in policymaking — and will itself build out its data capabilities.

The new strategy shares themes with health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Health Again agenda. He has called children the country’s “greatest resource” and argued that children’s health is the foundation of the nation’s health.
